Why only 1 fish in such a large tank?
well, it's sort of I want just one big fish instead of a bunch of litte or medium sized ones. I remember seeing a giant 30" aro in a 300G tank all by himself when I was younger, and I couldn't take my eyes off it. it was just so awesome. no other fish to spoil the mood, just one, huge, dramatic fish.

in that case, how about a black arowana. that would be really good. arowanas are some of the best looking swimmers, and a black would be more interesting than the silvers. there seems to be a lot of blacks about at the moment

well, I have the space, but i'm not sure I could make a whole 300G setup for under $2 grand.

Yes you can, easily. I have less than 2grand in my 265 and 300 combined (complete setups)

really? I was thinking with all the filtration costs and all that, and I might have to DIY a hood for it, one strong enough to stop a full grwon silver (i'd love a black, but i'd most likely have to settle for a silver.)

How about a Hydrolycus Armatus, Payara. That would look way tight with a huge armatus swimming aroung by himself in the 300g. Eventually you would have to get a bigger tank but, he should be cool in the 300g for awhile.:D

a tiger fish? no way... that'd be mua awesome, but the tank a full grown one would need.... I think i'll get a 150 fahaka,or maybe even just a 55G with a small crenichicla.

i think you should be able to buy a 300 second hand pretty cheap. at least enough to get you some cool fish too. if you like bottom feeders and want to be able to get some other fish in as well, why not get a big royal panaque. they are super cool, active, great personality and hardy. they can even eat from your hand... what more can you wih for :)
