Monster sump finally full...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You can put it in a media bag or in a reactor or filter. I run mine in a reactor. It can be recharged six times so it lasts for quite a while.

40 bucks a pop though for a 100 gallon tank treatment....man....

"Controls ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates by removing nitrogenous organic waste."

How exactly does it handle water discoloring from tannins?

I might try removing the wood and boiling it in removed (existing) tank water. The plecos won't like their homes temporarily removed it but that seems like it just might work.

I guess I can use my gas grill boiler outside and just rotate the wood around in a decently size pot (since I do not have a witches "cauldron" lol)

How long should I boil each side of wood for?

Since you can't fully submerge it I wouldn't go too long on any single side. Cook it like a sausage, 5 on this side, 5 on the other then 10 on the first side and 10 on the other should do it. Depending on how well it was cured and the biopotential of your tank water it may take a good amount of time.

Yeah it's been sitting in the tank for a month now (slowly leeching). So hopefully I will not have to boil it long. Should I use the same boiling water for each piece? I have 3 pieces that will need boiling.

I would boil mine but the pieces are 3ft plus long and weight 15-20kg, so boiling in not an option. I thought about Purigen but will try carbon for know and keep you all up dated on the results.

As for prefilter I have the whole 1st section full of foam.
I haven't cut it to size yet but the section is 35cm x 60cm x 50cm and will have a huge surface area, I am also running filter floss matting over the drip tray.

Tank will be a grow out for my Gator gar and Leichardti, before the Gar moves to an out door pond. The tank will then be a community/Cichla tank housing my Momo's, Tems and my three Emperor Cichlids. I will also move my Ck and Pleco catfish into the tank once the gar has moved into the pond.

Hey that purigen works wonders. I had that propleme with the wood in my tank. I put the purigen in it on my filter and the tank cleared crystal clear in a couple hours.
