Monster Tank Detractors..The Haters

When i tell people i have 15 fish tanks, i usually get a strange look, laugh, or the usual comments. When people see the tanks, it is a whole different story. Most people never have seen a large healthy fish in a nice looking tank. The most people usually see is a sterile saltwater tank in their doctor's office. What you have to remember is that even fish that are pretty common are impressive. I have a tank with a severum, a jack dempsey and a convict that people just drool over. Any hobby takes time and money. It is the level of commitment that sets fish keepers apart.

my family calls my bichirs and chana lizartds, say they are ugly ,and friends sink is funy because i give live bait to my fishs

Lets face it, not everyone has seen a hefty tank setup that most of us here are so
aware of. So do you have detractors, or haters that always have something negative to say whenever they see your pride joy?


My non fishkeeping friends would sometimes smile and tease that i would be setting up a chinese restaurant ( big tanks = chinese restaurant.LOL ). I would also hear the comments like " Your fish are so big and scary! " " When are we going to fry your fish?"

Im so used to it by now that i just smile and wont even say anything. Has this happened to fellow members?

LOL where have your friends been all thease years chinese restaurants in the USA only cook up cats and dogs

i would choose my tank over a girl any day of the year

There are 5 tanks in my apartment (3 i share with roommates, but the 29 and 55 are all mine), and everyone always asks how the milledgeville aquraium is running, or did ya get any new fish, or are you done yet? they always make fun of me when i am cleaning the tanks or feeding them and stuff and I just smile. Everyone has some kind of hobby, whether they admit it or not. Mine just happens to be fish. They could give me s**t every day, and I would still remain a fish keeper.

I hate to say it, but my fellow American is not interested in science. If I spout facts, I see the eyes roll.

Not only is this science, and a terrific hobby, it's also my art. I don't have a single painting or piece of art in my house (I'm 36), the aquariums are my friggin Arthur (also known as Art).

I hear these comments and "advices" all the time... And respond immediately.

"Why not a normal pet, like a cat or dog?"
My scaly friends don't leave ANYTHING around, don't smell, don't bark oh make any noises loud enough to be heard across the house.

"How can you spend this amount of cash in a fish like this?"
Haw can YOU spend ANY cash in beauty products with a face like THAT?

"Don't you tihink is cruelty to keep a large fish in a glass tank?"
Don't you think is cruelty to let a baby fish be eaten by a predator? It happens in the wild.

"How can you give live fish to these monsters? Don't you have a heart?"
Did you know your hamburger comes from a live cow, and not from a cardbox?

And so on...

I would get the fluffy dog, but I don't think that all of the hair would be good for the fishies digestive tract... Thats why I only feed short hair breeds.
