Monster Water Keeper - My Tank Project: What Fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I recommend a geophagus of your choice(pair if possible), accompanied with fire head or rummy-nose tetras! Add some bolivian rams in there too.

Gold nugget pleco perhaps? There are a LOT of pleco choices out there that would go with this biotope - beautiful ones at that. I will leave the compatibility issues to you. The plecos that get big wouldn't be good for your plants though, so stay small.

It would look really sharp! The tank would just blind you, literally, off it's beauty :)

See, the problem with geos and plants is they are constantly digging and can uproot a lot of stuff. I wouldn't put them in a serious planted tank for that reason.

Maybe some plants that grow on the dw. He could put some rocks around the plant root also.

Besides, the tank looks stunning even w/o that many plants or none at all.

thanks for all the complements everyone! i'm pretty satisfied with how it's coming together. i went to the LFS (Old Town Aquarium here in Chicago) to buy some plants and some fish. I bought 2 plants and a boatload of tetras. I have 12 rummeynose tetras (actually 11 rummeynose and 1 rasbora runt that found his way into the bag lol) and 6 Colombian Red and Blue tetras. I have some pictures below. What other fish do you think I should go with to complete it? I was thinking Angels and Acaras as well. They had quite an extensive selection of angels (phillipine blue, platinum, koi, silver veil, and a few others). The tetras are light-colored silver so I'm thinking of something with a ton of color or something that will stand out against the background. The platinum and phillipine blue angels looked immaculate at the store. Also, should I do any more plants? I want to prevent covering the entire background up with plants.

This is just my opinion but... the plants just killed it... those plants are an eyesore to me.

To me it takes away the "coolness" of your tank - especially from your amazing background. I think it also eliminates the illusion of it being a bigger tank.

If you still want some plants in there, while taking my opinion seriously, you should go with plants that are small. I believe "less is more" in this case and will help the illusion of it being a big tank.

It is your tank, but I'm sticking with my initial recommendation of geos, rummy-nose tetras, blue rams, and a beautiful pleco(maybe gold nugget, which are easier to find-in my area anyway). One big school of the rummy-nose would be better rather than two smaller ones imo also...
