I dragged that beast up a 20 foot hill from a river by myself. :D

Kind make my cutting it dilema seem like weaksauce.. You've seen/dragged this thing in person so what do you think? Should I slice off the bottom and leave the vertical part as is or cut it so it looks like it goes above water?

I would cut the top. If you don't want it to break the water's surface you could round it off with a rasp (or better yet an angle grinder).

Bro, if I had figured out a good way to cut it, I would have cut it myself. It's a funky shaped piece of wood. ;)

I will always say cut the bottom, coz when i go shopping for DW, all too many times the perfect piece is ruined because they cut it near the top rather than the bottom making it IMO look unnatural with that flat or angled cut...

i would say cut the vertical piece and then rotate the wood so that the cut part leans on the back of the tank (so in your first pic as it is that would be from the back of the tank so cut the shaft and lean it toward the screen which is the back panel)

Ask fishmamma, she's into monster wood!

Hard to say for sure, better to see in person. IMO I think it would look best if you placed the wood with the most jagged part upwards, the longest leg to the left and the shorter detailed leg to the right. Though this way it may not fit in a 24" wide tank.

If this is the case get a bigger tank ;)

If you cut the bottom it'll look more natural, but I think it defeats the purpose of creating something to hide underneath. If you cut the top you could have it flush up against the top and it really wouldn't be seen.....

I say top
