Okay, so this time around I took all of the decor out except for two plants and one pot plate. Reason for this was the last spawn the female laid eggs all over everything that was in the tank spreading them out all over the place I thought because of this a lot of the eggs wouldn't be fertilized by the male. Even though I took everything out the female laid the eggs all over the tank... In the two plants on the air stones on the bare glass bottom of the tank...Everywhere except where I wanted her to lay them... Again because the eggs are all over the place scattered everywhere here and there I'm worried once again the fertilization count will be low once again.. I was hoping and planing that if she'd lay the eggs in one spot (on the plate) the male would be able to fertilize better and I'd have more eggs hatch.. Because she laid them everywhere I didn't even have the option to take the eggs out either and put them into the egg hatching tank I have.. I did however pull the plants and placed them in there but that was just a fraction of the eggs. I don't really have high hopes for this spawn but we'll see what happens. I plan on letting the eggs hatch in the tank with the parents and try sucking them out with a siphon or netting them out... But again doubt there was a high fertilization number in this spawn... All in all these two are killing me with their hard headedness...Appaerently they don't like that pot plate, so I'll pull it completely and try a big flat rock elevated next spawn.. Guess it's a trial and error game but I seem to be getting a lot of errors...:irked:

I do still have about 15 fry from the last spawn but seem to be growing slow?? I have been feeding them crushed Massivor in powder form... Thought I'd see a faster growth rate?..

Alright, I have about 20 swimmers left out of all of that... I had some issues with removing all the unhatched eggs & rotten eggs and so had water quality problems that I believe added to the overall death toll due to spoiled water. I have revised a plan to correct this problem in the next go around though.. But I will say it is pretty hard to get all the egg debris out without taking wigglers too.. If anyone has advice please share it with me. Thx!!

Here's two short clips of a few of the lil guys, not much to see but is something -

To get the eggs with out the wigglers I've used air line as a siphon to suck up the eggs. Not as much vacuum and more precise.

Thanks! That's a great idea.. Do you know if eggs that have detached from their original position where the mother had "stuck" laid them still hatch... Just rolling around on the bottom??

Any cichla fry is better then none. And for you to learn something you have to lose something as i've learned the hard way. You just make the corrections so it doesn't happen again. But on to the fry, what are you planning on feeding them?

In my experience with non cichla eggs some do, I think if they dont get beat up they will be fine. Kinda like an egg tumbler I guess. When they go white they are goners. :(
