MonsterPeacock Bass Breeding Diaries

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah, I’ve slacked off on updating this thread huh.. Kinda seems like people really didn’t care anyway, so why waste my time in updates ya know. BUT since ya asked…

I have had several more spawns since the last update, and yes I’m getting better and better results with every tweak in perfecting things with each spawn. I’ve found over trial and error that it’s seems to be the small things that make the difference and getting them to spawn is the easy part… It’s the perpetration and what you do after the eggs are laid that really matters. I will share some of the techniques and secrets I have stumbled onto over the months and what seems to work for at least me here in a few days… Reason for this Is I just had another spawn yesterday and I have tried a few new things that I think will make a HUGE difference in the number of hatched eggs and the overall success of this spawn. Two more days to go…fingers crossed for a huge turnover this time and lots of wigglers.

haven't said nothing on this thread but i been reading and watching your notes..good job bro..keep up the good work..whats one of the most important keys to make them breed?

Nice info. My first spawns started a couple years ago. My first spawn was in the low 80s, after that it was exactly every 18 days and didnt matter what temp 75 to 81. The first spawn 50% were fertile after that it was about 80-90% everytime. My Male has sight in one eye only. The only thing differnt I do is use alot of Tannins. Why is you water so warm? Thankyou

MP, I don't think people don't have interest in this thread, I think it's just one of those subjects that most fish keepers don't know much about, so you get less feedback.

Very good point. Also Cichla Monoculus is problably the most sold Cichla in the Us ....One good pair can take care of the biggest wholesalers in the Country. Not a big demand.

Cant wait for update and secrets lol, the way its looking within the next week I should have my second spawn was going down the same road moving all others out rearranging decor for better nest and what not but I ran into a lot of dead spots which was playing with my water params too much meaning not enough flow and thought first thing is first water quality so took everything out put a divider cause my male beats on the female seems i'm the only one that has an abusive male but she healed up water got crispy removed the divider about a week ago and presto her breeding color came in his hump is huge and she's looking fatter but hasnt stopped eating which i'm waiting for Ive been busy with work so havent seen where she may lay I hope its on the driftwood this time last time was on the glass... I found this thread very helpful and will be my first suscribed thread, Good Luck in cracking the code.....

I’ve had several spawns since the last spawn posted and really just using them to learn and prefect my methods…It’s a lot easier to lose mono’s due to errors or inexperience but another entirely to lose Azul, xingu, kels etc… So I have been working on my skills in perpetration for the big show down the road.. Alright here is a clip of the latest batch of Peruvian Mono's that just hatched. These guys are only a few hours old in this clip that was taken last night. I may do a quick brine shrimp feeding vid later tonight with the fry.

Also, here is a clip of one of the mono fry's I have kept from one of my passed spawns and raised myself. This lil guy is from "Spawn #2" if you look back to my 1st page on this thread you'll see the father is a PU Mono and the mother was a very Green mono female with an unknown origin. This lil guy is already showing that deep green color that his mother had, he's about 3" now and is very strong & healthy. I decided to keep one outta that batch and I'm glad I did, because I lost that green female shorty after.. So this lil guy is all that's left of her bloodline and that deep green color.(Also I recently changed to an iphone and didn’t realize until I uploaded these clips that it takes on the iphone shape)….WTF…Looks all jacked up, am not sure how to fix that either.. I’m actually surprised it just didn’t stretch and modify automatically when uploaded to youtube… IDK…Stupid!
