What kind of predatory fish could I keep in my 55 gallon. I want to stay away from cichlids on this one

Bichirs, puffer fish........Try a group of pea puffers in planted scenerio........A 55g, no cichlids, predatory------>saltwater.......

Are you talking about a fish that you can put in there for life or is it okay as a grow out tank and the fish would live happy for atleast a couple months, i could think of tons that would go in their fine, but grow out tank. Try discus, not really a predator but they are really nice, love them and perfect for a 55 gallon. Also a fish that is a predator is a arowana but it has to be a grow out tank. If you buy like a 3 in aro though it can live in there for atleast 4 months, depending on food and other stuff.

senegal bichir, smaller knife fish species( not bgk or clown) exodons, or leopard ctenopoma- the ctenopoma sounds ideal for you, it has nice pattern, wont outgrow the tank, and mine was fairly interactive. you might even be able to add a few tankmates like some larger growing tetras or something. there are also some catfish that would work, pictus, bumblebee cat, and i think a jaguar catfish would stay small enough, not 100% sure on that tho so do some research and ignore alot of the previous posts. gl

I was looking at them. do they recagonize you or are they dull personality wise

african brown knife

I love my Bicher and my rope fish are very entertaining. Just make sure whatever other fish you have in your tank is bigger then the Bicher's mouth. Walking Catfish are pretty awesome too

you could get a jardini it only grows up to about 36 or so but people that say oh its going to be cruel for the fish not really because lfs have them in like 20 gals and **** but best bet is a 90gal but the jar can stay in there for a while tho

Shovel Nose also, I have had mine for 5 years almost six and he is maybe 6" long eats comes to tank when you come over has eaten goldfish from my hand.

Butis Butis, crocodile fish are a bit dull colour wise, but they have ood personality if they are a bit shy, only grow about 6 inches, plus they look a lot like nile perch/
