My love for fish is spreading, my 55 gallon salt is pushing me to want to get a fresh water. But with only enough space to get a 30 gallon, I am wondering if there are any easy maitanance monsters that will be able to live in it. I am not sure of the dimensions of it because I still haven bought it yet, but it is a normal shape... Are there any monsters to get along with other monsters, I would be looking for a couple fish to put in the tank and not just cater to one big one. Any info would be greatly appreciated... Or even if you don't know of any monsters, are there any spectacular fish that you guys like besides the plan old gold fish?

in a 30gal, you could probably get away with a pair of firemouth cichlids. they aren't huge, but definitely have the attitude and color!!!

You could probally get away with a pair of Blue Acaras, or a pair of firemouths, or even a few Jewel cichlids. Both have good color, but dont get real big.

I keep a pair of Convicts in a 30 and am very happy with them. If you do not want to go for something as common as Convicts I would second the Leaf fish.

don't know how many times I have posted this but go with a couple of puffers... Figure 8 is strictly fresh water and the spotted variety is brackish both will reach sizes of just over 4" with proper care and diet and will also hastily kill goldfish or any other small feeder that you want to get arid of...

I second the firemouths, I never knew how cool they were till I owned some. I have two in a 30g. Convicts are monsters without a doubt, you could get a pair and watch them raise their young, very interesting.

I am more of a fun of the smaller but more interesting color patterns of the German Blue Ram, or the Leopard Bushfish cool fish and rather agressive neither get very large but they are great to look at especially in a smaller tank.

Definately dwarf pikes bro! Rapps has some killer Crenicichla regani and what not in right now! Totally go that way! Fo shore! Pikes don't really dig like most other cichlids...so you could have a planted tank. Just my input...;)
