What are your opinions on moonlights? They sure do look impressive but in a freshwater set-up are they good for the fish?

They are very low key, I don't think the fish care at all.

I spent alot of money on them and they are great for viewing but dont spend alot. After about a week you just end up turning off the regular lights and dont even bother with the moonlights. Usually only on special occasions do I turn mine on now, or if I want to check on my TSN and make sure he isnt swallowing another pleco, so now at second thought, go fo it if you have nocturnal fish you would like to view once in a while, just dont spend alot.

its something im yet to invest in, and i really should considering the amount of plecos i have, and would like to see more of

whatsup everybody. I think this is my first post, but I really like the moonlights I have on my 55g. I keep them on a timer that turns on roughly an hour before my lights go off then stays on for three hours. I got them from thelabos.com.

I use them on 2 out of the 4 tanks I have. I love them, actually can see things in the dark, and since some of my tanks have very shy and nocturnal fish, really helps. I have all my lighting on all 4 tanks controled by timers.. so no extra worries or work for me. 1 tank I use nocturnal blue, and the other I use lunar white...

I have a 36" 18 LED moonlight on my 55 and I love it. I hooked up a switch to mine so when I turn off the daytime lights I just switch on the moonlight. Plus they're LEDS so it doesn't matter if I forget to turn it off one day. I think I paid around $40 for mine on ebay. Plus it makes for nice nightlight in my living room:D

Moonlights are benificial only for the owners. They will help lure out your nocturnal fish. I have tried several different styles, and colors, and the best I have found is the blue R2 moonlight. Dependent on the fish however. I noticed most of my cats reacted well to the blue color, but knives respond better to the green. By the way, Silver aros look awesome under a blue light.

I was thinking about getting them. I was going to set mine up so they create a dusk or dawn effect. i.e. turning them on an hour before my normal lights go on and leaving them on an hour after the lights go off. My fish sometimes freak out when i turn on the lights on and off so it might stop them from freaking out.
