"Goldfish people" are grateful you aren't trying to cram goldfish into your tiny tanks. If you switched to goldfish, you'd be changing even more water and having to rehome them as they outgrow your tanks. It only took ONE shubunkin goldfish to overstock my mom's 60gal tank. He hit eight inches in less than a year and had to go. There were no other creatures in the tank. It was overfiltered.
Only people who wonder why their fish die would advise keeping goldfish as a downgrade. They require more care than many tropical species.
