MORE EFICIENT FISH KEEPING?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I knew the goldfish comment would fire somebody up! and the only reason he suggested goldfish was to cut the heaters out not the filtration, and anybody who brags about the size of their tanks is ridiculous, so dont worry goldfish people I wont be cramming mammoth shubunkins and comets into my "tiny tanks", there is way too many people on here who take themselves way too seriously, evry thread somebodys arguing or interrogating somebody, lighten up and enjoy the hobby and the shared experience of mfk

Turn off the lights. It's pretty easy to calculate how much you're spending on the tanks if you know what you pay per kilowatt; energy rate * watts/1000 * hours of use per day * 30 = price per month

The lights are probably a large portion, the heaters are likely the most though. Turn the temperature down a degree.

I thought the goldfish comment was funny, btw.

I hate my goldfish.....all 11 of them...all 8"+. They are in the garage because they dont need a heater.
I have discovered that sump filters are a very real alternative to efficient filtration if you havent considered it before.
Basically, one pump, one heater...everything else is gravity. As far as lighting a tank not concerned about the plants, you should only light it 6-8 hrs a day anyway...I go days with the lights off in my 210 and I could go longer...point is, saving money on our hobby ensures we can stay in the hobby.:D

My wife loves the goldfish...:irked:
