It's their stance on domesiticated / captive animals which is the biggest issue that I disagree with them on. Strangley enough despite the supposed goal of eventual extinction of all domesticated animals by ceasing to breed them, PETA supporters often seem to often have animal companion themselves. Some of them have many animal companions.
Sadly PETA loses a lot of support because many of the people who are sympothetic to other causes within PETA now think they have to give up keeping companion animals.
Some get confused on concepts thinking the euthanization program is part of the desire to make domesticated animals go extinct or that PETA wants all domesticated animals released into the wild.
To answer what PETA's stance on keeping wild animals is:
I know they are against zoos and aquariums ( which maintain wild animals).
Going by people who are anti domesticated animals: I know they discourage keeping them more then traditional domesticated animals such as dogs and cats. I know they would not support returning captive animals to the wild and believe in rescuing needy animals who are already in captivity. I 'm guessing they would feel the same about wild animals already in captvity as they feel about other domesticated animals.
No breeding and no aquiring more of them. Best way to find out is to really ask someone who holds this view point.
I don't consider either ELF or ALF as terrorist groups. Nether of them have a goal of injuring people. Unless you consider finanical loss to be terrorism. It's not that I see vandalism as a good thing, it isn't the right term.
What I've read/heard about ELF is they are about destroying development which is in enviromentally sensitive areas.
I know more about the ALF. I've chatted with people who are pro ALF and have read a book about them. I recomend anyone who is curious about what the ALF does to check into this book. It's called ____ . Their goal is to make animal exploitation unprofitable by vandalism/ destroying equipment used to harm animals and rescue animals.
As said before, I'm not fond of illegal actvity and vandalism. I do seeing rescuing animals as a grey area in terms of illegal activity. If it's done, I would prefer it be done with minimual vandalism and property damage.
For the sake of this board, I wonder what peoples here would think about someone who stole a mistreated/sick/dying fish from a petshop. Would the theft be wrong?..A crime?...maybe, terrorism?, I don't think so. If the domesticated animal issue was what I most disagreed with, the support of illegal activity is the issue that is of the most concern. Esepcially large scale vandalism.
I'm going to join PETA again when I have more money overall. When I'm back to being a member, I'll raise some of these issues as i'm guessing they'll be more opt to change policies from a paying member. I might say withdraw my membership ( and write why) if I see evidence of illegal acitivity being supported while I'm a member.
