I really wish that you would have gotten some first hand experience with ADULT nile monitors before getting one for yourself.

crocodile monitor aka Varanus salvidorii

You might want to look up Varanus ornatus or Ornate Monitor. They used to be considered as a subspecies of Nile Monitor, and some breeders and pet stores still sell them as Nile Monitor.

Just thought you might want to know that large_cichids. That picture is a definate Varanus niloticus though.
