more nile pics

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That nile is over weight IMO. Natural occuring niles are not fat in the least. Reason being is they have to be very agile and incredibly fast for there size. I would say their body type should be more along the lines of a very large and well built Savanah. Not exact, but just to give you an idea.

BTW Large_Cichlids, Niles grow HUGE, which im sure you know, just please make sure you can house this little cute guy when he is a 7 foot brute.

Z, I agree that monitor obesity is a common problem, but you're dealing with absolutes here. Just because a monitor doesn't have a skin fold doesn't mean it's horribly obese and will succumb to liver disease at any given moment. There are "husky" monitors just as there are husky people. Are you saying that any person with love-handles is on the verge of heart failure? It's simply not that cut and dry.

And it has been proven that simply feeding mice to a monitor is not going to make it obese. In fact, a diet completely devoid of rodents has been proven to be unhealthy. Moderation is the key. Obviously, all mice and nothing else can lead to problems, but just because someone on here give his monitor a mouse a week, don't crucify him, alright?

Me-wee-todded, that violin almost looks like a 3-D model. Is it real?

Alright guys, our opinions of him aside, I think LC has had enough people comment on the size and temperment of Nile monitors. I think he's got the message. He seems to be having decent success with his nile, so let's just hope he starts making good decisions about its future and help him if we can.

I agree, and in no way am I knocking him. I love Nile Monitors and almost purchased one myself when I was younger, until I saw an actual adult in person. BEAST, plain and simple.

I'm sure that the longer anyone owns one of these animals, their human curiosity will help them research more and develope a complete understanding of the animal in order to provide them with the best enviroment possible outside of their natural enviroment.

Good luck Large_Cichlid. Don't take what I said wrong bro. Keep us posted with this guys progress along the way.
