As in, the niger, giant ralphael, and so on family.

Which fish is the most owner responsive? Second question, which one is more active? I know some of the larger Niger's have been described as "living logs".

So, input? Much appreciated ahead of time.

Each individual fish will behave differently.

I haven't kept the giants, but among the smaller doras, my amblydoras nauticus are active and fearless. I can pick them up by any fin any time and they just hang happily leaf-like in my hand. As far as intellect, catfish (especially doradids) are probably the last place to look. They seem to out-dumb each other daily.

Can anyone recommend any particular catfish that are very intelligent/have a lot of personality?

Yes. They are adorable, active and responsive. And humongous.

Bump. Anyone else? Love some more input on intelligent/active catfish.

How about the vulture catfish?

there are two large nigers at the aquarium i volunteer at and i would describe them as being like spiked manatees with whiskers: kinda lazy at times but very personable

Kind of conflicts with the above mention of them being some of the dumbest animals gracing the water.

i didn't say they were smart, but their dumbness is part of their charm
