Its not about what would kill each other really.Just which is more agresive.........We have to admit we do not keep cichlids just for their looks. They are nice looking but face it, most of us want the fish that isent scared of anything.

for example: (not my pics)

Then explain what you mean by ''aggressive'' if you are not referring to in relationship to other fish...and what does ''not afraid of anything'' mean?

aggressive dosent mean killing a fish,by aggressive i could be talking about attacking the glass when a human is near its tank.when i say not afraid i mean that they do not run or hide under a rock when something approaches.

See this is a no brainer here it's not like it should even be debated a full grown red terror gets 23 inches and a red devil gets around 15 inches and would easily kill a adult red devil i know this for a fact because i've been working with these types of fish for over 2 decades

So what you are really asking is if they will attack the glass? Not which one is more aggressive, or likely to atack the glass. They are all predisposed to mouthing the glass...but again, depends n the individual personality of the fish. If your fish hide under a rock when approaching, try adding a fast swimming dither fish. It will generally do the trick.

Cich T ~ Show me a 20+ inch Festae. I've been in the hobby for almost four decades and the largest I ever saw was Jeff Rapp's breeder that was maybe 15".

The only thing size has as an advantage is size. A much smaller fish can kill a larger fish. If you want an example that is close to home, I had one of my small 9" male Festae's kill a 12" female Festae So then it's a matter of males being more aggresive than females.

I can tell you many times over the years I had females beat a much larger male into submission during breeding. SO then it's breeding fish are more aggressive?

There was a study done ( I think in Vancouver) where a group of fish were kept in the same tank until a pecking order was established. The Submissive fish was then removed and put into a tank with fish (same species) that were substantially smaller. The much larger submissive fish remained submissive. So the lesson was learned. The larger fish remained submissive.

Discussions about which is more aggressive are just plain silly. Everyone knows why it's being asked. If you want more info, just search the topic.

pound for pound there isnt a mean fish than ur convict i have three of them about 3.5 inches and when spawning they wil fight and beat just baout anyhting in there including oscars jacks and a 11 inch venustus if they reached sizes like a devil or an oscar they would be 1 tank 1 fish kinda guys

Aquamojo, lets be very clear just because you have never seen a 20inch plus festae does not mean that's everyones experience..I feel with a lot of cichlid hobbyists there is a fakeness, because lets be real we all want a healthy happy tank but at the same time the nature of most cichlids is their aggressiveness which can make them even more interesting and appealling...now i see a lot of guys acting all high and mighty when it comes to mixing aggressive species you hear "oh how could you mix this with that they may fight blah blah blah" but yet in their own tank they may have a red devil, green terror, and buttikoferi in the same tank! please!! if you don't want cichlids to ever sqaubble i suggest you invest in guppies and platies that way aggression is less pronounced..and as far as people frowning on how i may mix things or my views on cichlids in general i feel it's their issue not mine..i've had many many years of success so it's all good!:)

Too late. I have over 7,000 gallons of water with 30 different species of CA/SA cichlids. Many of which are considered top of the food chain aggressive.

I don't know what you mean by "fakeness". It's a big internet. Show me a picture of one 23" Festae. My comments have little to do with fish "fighting". In fact I don't recall using that as a basis for any discussion about mixing species. Lots of big fish in a tiny tank just leads to problems.

And let ME be very clear. I personally don't care if you keep you or anyone else keeps their fish in a sandbox stacked in layers of cellophane.

You are correct. It's all good. Enjoy the hobby.

Yeah you are right i'll keep my sandbox.. i would rather be creative than have a tank that looks like a bland river bed, but we all have are own ideas that's cool as far as festae...there was a client of mine who had a 20plus inch festae in a 300 gallon tank..it was absolutley massive! but rather you believe me or not thats ok i know what i saw and that's all i care about. 7000 gallons very cool and nice midas cichlids. i just don't deal with cichlids by the way i also deal with marine triggers, puffers, groupers, tang, batfish, eels, various marine sharks, cowfish, angels, to name a few not to mention wildlife and various reptiles so i'm diverse.
