Most aggresive Fresh water cat fish???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had a 24" rtc who had a huge appetite and yes ate everything that fit in his mouth and the one thing that did not which led to his death. I have got a 16" wallago that the only thing he lets live is my orange spot pleco. He has killed an arrowana, multiple black convicts and a couple of green terrors. every time he ate or just killed one of these fish he was fully fed that night. So far the longest living new member to my 240 with the wallago is 24 hours.

not the most agressive but definitely up there. today i got a paroon shark. the thing is just like a saltwater shark. swims around in circles all day and goes crazy as soon as i drop any kind of meat in the tank till he finds it. also got an ompok cat. already ate a piece of market shrimp bigger around than his body it's crazy. and the last being a heleogenus marmoratus. in the store he thrashed and ate a red belly.

Helogenes marmoratus :WHOA: I would of liked to see that, as they only grow 100mm max.:) Very cool cat for the small system.;)

he's actually in my 125 with my tsn, tsn x rtc, P. niger, lima, common pleco and four red belly pacu.

i think you will find this fellow is without competion:Wallago attu

from the net :

The natives fear it because of its known habit of eating small ducks, dogs, and small children. It is thought the Tapah became this agressive due to natives laying to rest their dead in the water. The catfish would then see this as a ready supply of food. Conditioned feeding of human corpses over the centuries created a fish that has a taste for humans!

A pet store in Michigan which had a Wallago on display, tried to convince a disbelieving customer about this fishes aggressiveness. After all, the Wallago just laid on the bottom of the aquarium without moving. He was also curious why the pet store owners kept several large heavy blocks on top of the aquarium cover. He was soon to find out during feeding time!!! The fish nearly flew out of the aquarium attempting not only to bite the fish being introduced for food, but also tried to escape from the aquarium in an apparent attempt to go after the person feeding the fish. The customer needed no other explanation. The Belle Isle Aquarium also reported similar behavior from the Tapah. Employees are warned to be very mindful of this fishes tendencies to "bite the hand" that feeds it. These fish are dangerous and not for the faint hearted. Only the biggest of aquariums should house these fish. The fishes habits are well documented and human corpses have been recovered from the fishes stomach.

I'm not too sure if I believe it all, but that must be the most aggressive catfish. Scary.

I don't think it the most aggresive but to back up the Wallago stories. a guy at my LFS was attacked by a 8" W. Leeri. Not the same fish but closly related.

My vote for most aggresive has to be ARTC or Wykii. closely followed by B. Yarralli, not sure of the spelling.

all you guys that say asian redtails are aggressive

have you ever had one?

I have one right now at about 7" all i can say is PUS*Y the only time he will show " aggression" is during feeding and when my other fish go near his log other wise he gets punked by my oscar and my syndotis cat honestly i would say my syndotis is more aggressive
