What are the most aggressive african cichlids and which of the african cichlids gets big and can hold their own in a tank with central american and south american cichlids?
P. Crabrois prob the worst and largest mbuna or african cichlid. but I would NEVER put any Mbuna in a central/south american tank. For 1. african Mbuna's are herbivorous, wheras most american cichlids are omnivorous, leaning more on the carnivore side. I would say no go with africans in an american tank
This is one of the most stressfull fish of the larger Malawi haps. He eats small fish yes, but they are not aggressive.
The Mbuna species are the more aggressive fish of the Malawi.
Of the larger malawi species(the haps) I would say that the Nimbochromis Fuscotaeniatus might be one of the more aggressive fish. Fossorochromis Rostratus can be very dominant once they get large(12"+) as well but wouldn't kill fish often.
On a side note what do you mean by aggressive? Like the meanest fish that can kill anything or a fish that defends its territory more fiercely?
Arturatus would probably be able to hang. I had my JD in with a bunch of africans for a long time and he did well, until the JD decided to go bezerk and kill one of them. My salvini is still growing out in there.
I'd say Buttikoferi also and they will definitely hold their own against CA/SA fish if not come out on top. I had one in a CA/SA community tank and they all got along fine.
