what about peacock bass ?
are they aggressive or just hungry ?
peacock bass can get downright mean at least mine did along time ago when i owned him but of equal size peacok bass usually cant stand up to these more aggressive cichlids.

I honestly think Dovii is overated in aggression. I believe it's more preditory instinct rather than full on Territorial disputes. Yes they do have quarls because of territory I will say that and are not to be underestimated but In my 11 years of fish keeping I have never kept more aggressive fish than Good Ole Midas. They will take on any size fish take no prisoners. Dovii got teeth thats what they have the upper hand on.

My list goes as follows.

1) Midas
2) Umbee
3) Beani
4) Dovii

I say pound for pound........Neets. ;)

This topic has been beat to death. Keep in mind it is usually (maybe not in this case) a 14 yr old who starts it again.

From MY experience

I would say MALE Dovii. Umbee is a close second (First with conspecifics) and Midas in third.

my male Dovii will actually attack things that are over 10' away in the room. If my girlfriend or cat walks into the room he goes ballistic...to the point where i get scared he is going to break his jaw (the cat is no longer allowed in the room for this reason). If this isnt territorial aggression then i dont know what is. he actually thinks he owns the entire room!

HAHA that reminds me of my Midas. He HATES and dispises the cats in my house. He goes nuts wacking the tops and glass. I have to keep the water level 2-3" belwo rim so he doesn't keep hitting the tops open. He has cuts on his head from it but they are going away now.

Sounds like me and you have the same personality fish but different species. My Dovii is still young yet but at 5.5" my Midas was kickin everyone's @$$.

dovii - people try to argue it and say because of it's size it's more aggressive.
they fail to realize that a dovii is still the most aggressive cichlid.
