...in your tank that may be true. In my tank the tankmates would not make it through the night...guarunteed. It's not a great idea telling people to just stick them together. Without knowing their individual fish...you have no idea what would happen.

i had a dovii in a 10' 4' 4' tank he killed a 48 inch arowana over 20 diff cichlids including other large dovii lage midas large umbees some rtcs tsns and niger cats............. he tryed to get to me when i came home from work....................... so they are the most aggressive cichlid the only thing he didnt kill was a 36 inch jardini arowana and he was like 23 inches long or more he was a wild one same with the jardini..............but yea they where the best of friends....................(not really they had there fights all the time but no one was hurt at all)

I dont understand why you would let it kill all those fish. i think after the first 2 i would have moved him or taken the dovii or other fish to a lfs. or gave them away if the lfs didnt want it.

if you stay away from dovii,umbee,red devils,festae your chance of putting a sa/ca tank together are alot better. but your always taking a chance when you mix them.

What reasonable logic led you to this answer.Have you ever done it with all these species? I don't mean with juvies either but have you succeeded with these species together as adults for a long period of time?
Dovii and Umbee are generally solo fish unless in huge aquaria because of their usual aggression. RD's and Festae are hit and miss when it comes to making good tank mates. In no way would I just throw them all together in a tank and expect it to calm down.

I fail to see your logic behind this. Of course a 22"+ fish is gunna kicka 12" fish @$$ and then some BUT if you took a Midas lets say grow him to 22" which is still impossible but Hypothetically that Dovii would be SH**ing bricks. He would get mald. I have kept both species.... the question is have you?? I have noticed Dovii are not aggro as people crack them up to be..... yet if you haven't kept Dovii how would you be able to base an opinion? By what others have told you?

Look at the Design of each fish. Midas LOTS of biting force and have Bulky upper build, pretty powerful swimming capabilities. Yet look at Dovii Large mouth used as suction to basically vacume up prey but not a whole lot of bite force. Very slender but have Awesome powerful swimming capabilities. Dovii are faster and have big teeth but if Midas were that big people would be saying something totally different!

This is my Opinion sorry to really offend anyone but I wanted to get it clear they are not really the most aggro cichlid in the world. It all really depends how pissed off the fish gets and who has the strongest ability to hold ground continuosly. I think Midas.

My most aggressive fish is my Chuco micropthalmus. I don't know how he would compare to say a Midas or Dovii but this bad boy packs quite a punch. I keep him solo just because i can't stand to see another of my fish get his butt kicked. My Micro won't even wait a few minutes before he goes into atack mode. And he's fast .

are you familiar with the concept of overstocking to kill agression? works with large c/sa as well.
and to answer your question, yes i have done it with these species and more. naturally there will be an alpha in the tank, but the alphas role (in this case switching off between a dovii and a flowerhorn) is simply to keep the other fish in line. in no way am i saying it works with all fish, but to rule it out all together is just plain ignorant. every individual fish will be different, of course. but my tank is working out great.

have you tried it yourself? or do you say it doesnt work because thats what you were told?

I've kept large midas with smaller dovii on two occasions, and the midas never faired well. In fact, Ive had a male Umbees in with them once and it had to be placed in solitary. Every one has different fish, but more than once, the midas needs my interventions in order to survive. Not the most aggressive fish of this bunch, and when placed in my 240, it was almost semi-aggressive.

I think the size of the tank has a lot to do with the midas aggression.
