Most capable SA/CA?

I really don't understand post like this. Almost all the aggression witnessed in home aquariums is do to territory more than actual aggravated uncontrolled aggression.

You can take "mean" fish that will bang on the glass and kill everything in sight in a small tank (75-200+ gallons) that same fish in a 700+ gallon tank would be more docile not display any outward aggression unless its breeding.

I think its rather juvenile and more along the lines of my dad beat up your dad mentality. I'm not trying to pick on the OP of this thread I just see so many of these and it gets under my skin. All this who would win, a zombie with laser for eyes vs a skeleton with chainsaw arms vs superman? What is the point?

There is so much more toward fish husbandry than can fish A kill fish B. Its been well established as to which species will display territorial behaviors and one that wont. An established fish will almost away assert its dominance on its territory, and if it has the size and attitude it will usually be the dominate victor of a situation, but it is a territory thing not an aggression thing. Fish don't think in terms of good and evil.

I feel if fish could be walked on leashes like dogs we would see a lot of small 100lb teenage boys and men walking around with Gupoate's and Amphiliphous' with logging chains for leashes trying to look tough, much like they do now with Pitbulls, Presa Canarios, and Rottweilers.
Thank you at last. I couldn't agree more.
I hate these versus type threads.
Why are people so obsessed with which is the meanest most aggressive species.Personally I want my fish to be peaceful and well behaved.
Heavyhitter,as far as I am concerned you just hit the nail on the head.

Perhaps I didnt get my point across or it came across wrong. It's not a who kills who question per se, but a most capable physically of hunting down prey, protecting it's territory, etc. I get aggression in a small body of water (less than 20,000 gallons) fish behavior and aggression may be nothing like in a larger natural setting. I suppose my interest in this and many others spawns from the bigger, faster, stronger, mentality. In the 20+ years I've kept fish I've never intentionally housed fish to fight nor would i. Just knowing who the apex predator is is interesting to me, like knowing the fastest car, strongest man on the planet, or other trivial fact.

People are attracted to these fish for those traits and characteristics.

These who is the Baddest meanest Cichlid will always pop up forever as long as there are new age Cichlid lovers... If you don't understand that then you are pretty lame in the CA/SA cichlid world.

And nothing wrong with a person doing their research for whatever it is they want.

The attractions for me are appearance and interesting behaviour such as breeding and fry care. The aggressive side, for me at least is just parental care.
I see no attraction in owning a fish because it's a so called bad ass. It's a fish not a gladiator.

Not to argue, but why is wanting to keep a fish because it's a bad ass any less of a reason than because I think it's pretty?

It's not, just stating my reasons. I've never thought of fish as "bad ass"

I see nothing wrong in wanting to know what fish is the most efficient predator etc etc.
It just seems there are a lot of posts with titles like "red devil versus dovii" or "butti versus dovii"or who is the meanest cichlid.
Everyone is entitled to their view but personally I am put off by threads with titles like that.
I find them a little distasteful. Still that is just my view. The forum will be full of conflicting opinions. It is my opinion that fish are fish, not bad assess.
I also don't think it's lame to see c/a or s/a cichlids as just attractive and interesting species. To me only seeing them as "bad ass"is lame.

The Biggest and baddest Cichlids are Doviis, Umbees, Tiger Motas, Midas and Red Devils. All Cichlids are nasty if you set them up with wrong tank mates.

Most Capable off Killing Prey I'll Say Doviis because they shoot like the bullet and they are Predators with big Mouths.

i like big aggressive cichlids because they have personality and you can interact with them. where as there are only a handful if not less of fish that are small and peaceful that you can get that interaction with. i personally like fish when they establish a heirarchy and there are always challenges for the leading position. or if there is just one fish which can attain a connection with you and you can interact with it.

personally im not interested in threads with the title "geophagus" or "synspillum". ive kept lots of community fish and yeah some might establish a heirarchy but what happens when the leader is challenged (which happened about 3 times in a tank that i had for 5 years)? the stronger fish just chases it around a little and then boom its all over whereas cichlids are comstantly showing aggression towards each other and are dtermined to be the leader and if theyre not they will do anything to get which just fascinates me. i personally got bored of watching these peaceful fish swim up and down the tank occasionally, and alot of you will say thats because i got some non active fish but these were clown loaches. sure they were pretty active but i just got bored of them. the most interesting fish ive kept was an african butterfly fish when i was a kid i was just amazed at how it hunted its prey because it was so camoflauged and it had beautiful patters. this is all just my opinion so no need to get personal.

Without getting personal I think you have misinterpreted the point.
I also believe there are many small cichlids that show this personality you speak of.However no one was saying small fish are better than big ones. It's the who would batter who attitude that was the point. It's like an episode of robot wars but for fish.
