Uh, no - H. carpintis x C. cyanoguttatus would be a hybrid.

The OP started the thread with an ornamental fish. Who knows what went into making a Red Spotted Severum. Is a genetically aberrant ornamental fish of one species any more or less natural than a cross of two closely related species? It's more than possible that multiple species of Heros were crossed to create the red spotted sev. But who knows...

Really? I have never seen anything like that before. It's gorgeous. Is it a different species of oscar from what you commonly see in pet stores? Does anyone know if they keep that pattern and/or coloration their entire lives or do they grey out a bit like red tiger oscars?

Nope. Oscars always start out looking very nice and then turn into ugly brutes when they mature, essentially the complete opposite of every other cichlid out there.
