In mature specimens:
the males develop "bristles" on their heads.

Oh, thats easy. Thanks everyone.

females have bristles too.. but males will develop them up their head.. females is just more around the outside whereas the males will have a strip going up towards their "forehead"

Yeah thats true... But I don't know if bass_cats is willing to invest that much $$$ for the discus.. And how how much the LFS will pay for discus.
you got to spend money to make money.

i wouldnt count on making money on any fish people get for under 10 dollars.
some easy saltwater fish would bring in some cash, like clownfish.

However, The store should be willing to buy them at a good price(without you getting the feeling of being robbed after that deal). Sometimes stores hesitate to take valuable fish as they are not sure if they can keep the fish alive(same goes for aquatic plants).

you must have a a kinda small lfs, if they dont have a section or atleast a tank dedicated to more delicate fish. but your right you should check your area and the demand. i would go so far as to ask what they would consider paying you for a fish. probably 1/2-1/3 in store credit, count on less for cash.

btw i assume your refering to the discus, clownfish are bullet proof almost as good as damsels.

personally i would be more inclined to do discus as they seem to not have caught on much and i like something different, although i could probably make a decent amount on clowns as there are atleast 3 saltwater mom and pop store near me.
