Most expensive fish...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The bluefin tuna is the most expensive fish, right? They are between $50 and $100 a pound, and they weigh between $400 and $1400 pounds.

If we do the math, that's between $20k and $140k....

I love eating toro, and they are not cheap.

I see what you mean, but if you had a few million, you could buy the fish because you can, or as a symbol of how rich you are, as opposed to the love of the hobby, which people do, particularly with aros...

But anyway, I did mean fish for the hobby, not foods fish. Suprised neo hasn't chimed in, with going to the school of uber rare and all.

lol and pfk said that this platinum arowana was the most expensive theyve heard of. That mag needs to sort themselves out.

Things should be kept within certain limits, IMO. I have spent big amounts of money on fish ( aro's mostly )..I will, hopefully, again...

I don't know if I would spend the kind of money in a fish people speak about, for instance that 200,000£ snow aro....Even if I could spend that kind of money in a fish I think there would be a certain kind of "offensive element" in it, with all good things that could be done with such kind of money....

I don't know..I am not sure about this...on the other hand the person who is able to spend this type of money on a fish could possibly be a person who would spend much more money on other, more "worthy" causes....

And how do you tell those who do it for the as you call "symbol" of how rich you are?

If I wanted to show how "rich" I was I would not do it with a fish, but with all the other possesions like cars, boats, house and any of the other things that anyone would consider rich.

Well there are a lot of extremely expensive fish... i know snowy the AUL has been sold recently for lots of cash, but is there a record for the most expensive fish?

Well one of the most photographed fish at Aquarama 2007 is also one of the show's most expensive - a platinum arowana. It is the Osteoglossum species from South America, rather than the usual Scleropages from Asia. It was recently offered for sale to prospective buyers by a UK arowana importer for more than £200,000. Although apparently the owners of the fish, Aro Dynasty, are not offering it for sale any longer.

So where's that kid that sold his for 4 and a half K. Sounds like the buyer got a bargain lol.

So whats the most expensive fish ever. Worth or most expensive fish that has actually been bought?
side note :

Aro Dynasty bought that fish 2 years ago for $8,000 USD at 12"

did it get bought at half a mill? or is that "evaluated".

Which leads to another question....
Does anyone insure there fish?
