Okay, I need to jump in here and say that pets as gifts are not a good idea. I work with breed-specific rescue and we will not adopt out the animals to someone planning to give them as a gift, and for good reason. I don't know a single, reputable rescue for cats/dogs that will adopt out a pet as a gift, and for good reason...

If you want to get her a cat, that's cool. But, instead of getting a cat giving off the message "surprise, we're now committed to this animal for the next 17+ years. I hope you like the one I chose because that's the one we're stuck with", how about taking her to a shelter and letting her pick out the one she likes. That way, she has the option of telling you she's just not ready yet, if that's the case. And if she IS ready for another cat, then she gets to meet a bunch of them and pick out the one she likes best.

Cool bro thanks yea I heard that wen one purrs and tries to interact with you and has a really clean coat is more a family type :) do you recommend a breed as I don't really know anything about cats?
I've always just had common cats, not fancy bred. bobtail Manx mixes are interesting, their rear ends aren't so much higher than pure bred. siamese can be guard-cats with intruders, but I don't like the cross eyed thing,, so mixes are better (to me).
There's always nice kittens at shelters, & most get euthanized due to lack of homes.

In all seriousness though, i say take her to a shelter and let her decide. then take her out to dinner or something. or is she doesnt want another cat, get her a cat fish, that way you like it to.

His wife already likes cats, & recently hers had to be put down.
that's not the same as springing it on ppl not known to love a cat.
people experiencing pet loss often don't feel able to go about "looking", but do get comfort from and bond quickly with one that comes their way.
so why not get a kitten out of a high kill shelter?

A good 50% of my cats have been strays that show up and I just take care of them. Lots of cats get abandoned around here.
I need mousers, Hanta Virus is in our area.

I got 2 Siamese. Love em to death. Very friendly and need to be In any family picture. They just find there way over lol

I knew a guy with 2 siamese cats. a guy broke into his house and both cats went insane, jumped on his head and neck, scratching him to shreds. he was screaming and couldn't get them off. LOL! it was hilarious listening to him describe it.
They gave him enough time to get the cops there. apparently they did a better job than dogs.
Ever tried to pull 2 deranged cats off your head and back of your neck?
ROFL!
