Most important day:mothers day

His wife already likes cats, & recently hers had to be put down.
that's not the same as springing it on ppl not known to love a cat.
people experiencing pet loss often don't feel able to go about "looking", but do get comfort from and bond quickly with one that comes their way.
so why not get a kitten out of a high kill shelter?

I liked my first cat. After she died, my parents got another one. And, no, I did not bond quickly with it. In fact, I don't like it. I wish they had let ME pick it out, because now I'm stuck with it.
I also like dogs. Doesn't mean I would want someone giving me a dog. Do you understand the concept here?
It's a nice gesture by OP but the very best thing would be to let her choose one she wants, -when she's ready-.

Cats are irritating.
broad-brush statement of how you feel.....

Yeah I understand the concept there with you.
That's your feeling & you're opinionated. It doesn't necessarily mean that your thoughts/feelings belong to a woman who you don't know.
This cat loss & marital relationship is not your ''I also like dogs. Doesn't mean I would want someone giving me a dog."
A husband in a loving relationship, will be more in tune than a stranger in trying to give his wife some joy. I also seriously doubt that he would expect it to be a permanent bondage if she can't deal with it.
Besides, he did mention being open to taking her to pick something out. so maybe he will.
What's the worst thing that could happen, A kitten might get out of a kill shelter?
They are probably capable of working it out between them.

And yet the OP came on here asking what we thought about him getting his wife a cat. To me that doesn't seem like he is very confident in the idea, because if he was, he wouldn't be asking us. If he has to ask that on here then maybe he should at least ask his wife if that's really what she wants.

Obviously, him even mentioning the idea of taking her to pick one out would indicate that he prefers being considerate of her, and not the kind of husband who is insensitive to her feelings.
In that climate, why would a woman not freely express herself?
A jerk wouldn't even bother weighing out different ideas.

I believe petspoiler is right my wife loves cats even if she was to find it half dead shed take it in she's not very picky about it I brought it up once to her and yes she would take a kitty because she loves cats and guess wat she asked for mothers day 2hrs ago but I said we couldn't :) so now I know she would love a kitten and help her get through the loss of her cat not forgotten just help through tough times,

My black cat named tinkles(When i was little i named it tickles but i call him tinkles now LOL) is really cute and is very active). You could get a cute black kitten because i got tinkles when he was a little kitten and it is nice to see them grow up. On the other hand it is nice to rescue a cat. my family has to cats that we got when they were adults and they are very sweet. if she likes active carts get an active cat. if she likes lap cats get a calm cat. Good luck choosing a cat!:D

LOL,surprised the mods have not stepped in here with this being the general aquaria section and all...Get her a fish.
OMG! sorry...I didn't even look at the forum heading. I was browsing the "New Posts" page & assumed this was put in the Lounge.
but, I already messed up so getting kitty from a high kill shelter has my vote. the county shelters, humane societies & rescues I've been to allow ppl to return cats/dogs if it doesn't fit well in your home, & apply the adoption fees to another one. but you'd have to ask each place.
(I didn't start the argument ;-)

@OP, google cat rescues in your area. rescues post pics & info now.

GL!
