Most Miraculous Fish Save/ Recovery

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just thought of another one, not a super save just crazy. I noticed one of my 4" bala's was missing, I tore the tank apart, took out all the gravel, drained low enough to move the stand; and nothing.

I was kinda bummed and said oh well I guess he is gone, I was online at MFK getting ready to report the death, and something said check the canister filter. I thought to my self there is no way he could get in there, the tubing is only .5"ID and the opening on the tub was blocked b a home made guard that left basically .25" on either side of the tubing open.

Sure enough there he was living in the canister, he was all jacked up but lived, and is still living today.

I just thought of a save that I did a few years back , my cat always used to watch all my tanks she would get up on top of them and walk around and after a minute or two she would get down ... wellI was up stairs in bed on night and I heard her giving this god aweful shreaking !! jumped up ran to the basement and there she was inside my tank struggling to get out and there was my big amle umbee bit her paw and was literall trieing to drag her under he was shaking his head ... I hurried and opened up the canopy and grabbed a hold of her and secured her in my arms all this time my umbee still did not let go .... do you know how hard it is to pry a umbees lips open ? lol and after that the cat does not want anything to do withmy tanks and would not go back into the basement .

she got into the tank through my canopy I made my own ad used a piano hinnge for the oepning and I did not install a locking feature on it so it would swing freely ... I did not think I needed one seeing I don't have any kids ... I was wrong ... looking back on it it was kinda ironic and funny

 Hilarious!!!!

I am dreading having that happen with one of my cats - but lucky for them I don't have any fish that could really do them any damage!

I just had something similas happen a few days ago, except the cat didnt get bit by anything. I have a 55g and the stand has a 10g on the bottom with no lid. the cat pounced and tried to get the fish on the top tank but fell into the bottom one. it was pretty funny.

I used to breed bettas, and often i would find males on the floor black, crunchy and eyes sunken full of dust. I would put them in less than 1 inch of water, stress coat rub and they would wiggle and start to move around. The longest was I was missing a giant plakat for about 2 days, he must have jumped around alot and ended up behind a cabinet. i did the same as before and he was alive.

I had a prized Oscar jump out and dry up on the floor, seemed dead. threw him back into the tanks and it sunk like a stone. I thought all was lost until moments later when he began breathing. He lost most all of his fins and a good portion of his scales, but went onto live another 5 years to the age of 9. I miss that fish.

I accidentally put a White Cloud in a pitcher with a few drops of water for 22 hours. I only noticed because I went to use the pitcher to add new water to the tank. He got there because I stored by nets in the pitcher...he accidentally got netted out while I was removing uneaten food. I held him in a bucket and used a siphon to force water over his gills, then put him back into the tank. he sat on the bottom for about 12 hours before starting to swim. He lived.

13'' oscar jumped the coop, smashed right through the lid. thank god it was a floor tank. somehow it was loud enough for me to hear whilst taking a shower in the adjoining room.

a few months ago when one of my tanks leaked i had to move my fish to different tanks, and my congo puffer while in another tank some how managed to gulp in a whole stomach full of air and was laying upside down in the tank barely breathing..

Luckily i noticed it and then managed to save him by getting some plastic gloves on and massaging his stomach until i managed to burp the air out...

I´ve got a couple of saves to report.

First one was a lace gourami that I once built into a rock pile (water was cloudy at the time). I found him 3 months later when rearranging the rock pile. His tail had been pinned between two rocks and was subsequently bent at a 45 degree angle. After about a further 6 weeks the tail had straightened up again!

Second was a freshwater gudgeon that had wrapped itself up in loose carpet strands. I found him dry on the floor after hours. While picking him up he moved so I threw him back in. After about 15 minutes he shot out of his cocoon leaving a perfect carpet image of a gudgeon lying on the bottom of the tank.

third was a large Koi of about 70cm. I came in to the lfs where I was working at the time to find the koi lying next to the pond (morning shift) hardly moving lying in a pool of blood! I got him into the water and held a powerhead in front of his mouth for 2 hours. He slowly came back and lay on the bottom of the pond... for the next 6 months! He must have suffered brain damage cause I never saw him eat again. Sold him cheaply but the owners lost him after a further 6 months.

Last but not least was a six inch clown loach that choked on a piece of mussel meat. About 15 mins after feeding I noticed him lying on his side with his mouth open. I pulled him out of the water (no reaction except a rolling of the eyes) and looked down his throat to see a rubbery piece of mussel meat stuck there. Got it out with a pair of tweezers and put him back in. After about 5 mins he finally swam off... still alive today.
