nice. I was just thinking about this subject today. Mine doesn't really count, because at the moment its only imaginary. in its infancy of the planning stage.
I have a 55 gallon, with a crack on one end. its at the top, sealed, and doesn't leak, but its kind of an eyesore. the stand its on will also fit a 75. I was thinking about getting a 75 and turning the 55 into a sump for it.
of course I know nothing really about building a sump. need to do some research in the DYI section. I do have a quick question about that, though. would it be better to run the HOB filters and the air bubbles in the main tank, or would they be just as effective in the sump? or would they be completely unnecessary, considering its a 55 gallon sump for a 75 gallon tank?
Edit: by the way, right now I'm running an emperor 400, a penguin 150, and some cheapo rated at 100 gallons per hour. hardly overfiltered. at least considering my bioload.

At my worst I had a 150 gallon with 3 fx5's, an ac110, a 20gal wet/dry with 600gph return and a fluval 2 running a 24watt uv sterilizer. AND I STILL HAD FISH CRAP ON THE SAND! It was annoying. Since then I decommissioned the 150 and now am running a 240 with 1 fx5, 1 magnum 350, a 30 gallon sump, a 40 gallon wet/dry (w/ 1100 gph pump) and a fluval 2 running a 24 watt uv sterilizer. Oddly, the larger tank and less filtration does a better job of maintaining a clean tank.

I'd run it in the tank to get teh extra mechanical filtration. You don't really need a bubbler with a sump as there is lots of ariation going on in the sump. Add the bubbles for looks.pcfriedrich;2241434; said:

wow lol tons of filtration... i just got a protein skimmer for my 55 its not hooked up yet but it will be. and if all goes as planned ill have a pretty hefty sump with a mag 350 pump circulating it. i might even add another 55 power filter to the already eheim classic 66 gal and the whisper 30-60 power filter.
There's alot of filtration out there. Who has the highest turn over so far.----------My 55g has a turn over of 35.5 times and hour. lol------see pics a few pages back.-----------To me anything under 20x is not odd.
