excellent display. man sometimes i wonder just where do cichlids REALLY stand on the predatory ladder? people assume less of them because of their un-obvious looks but their intentions tell another story.

i come to the conclusion that in a predator tank, the dovii would be sending spotted gar / barracuda / payara / wolves / polypterids into the corners all day long.

that is one aggressive fish... and maybe depending on who gets the first wound, it could very well be Dovii > Rhom. the rhom wanted lunch, but the dovii just wanted to beat the tar out of ol' rhomby

(Rhom with lots of scrapes and gashes): "weez... OK OK!! please, enough!! stop... i won't eat you!!"
(Dovii): "... And?"

The whole issue isn't really fair. Every species fit a specific niche and has specific skills and traits to make them successful in that niche only. Put me and Mike Tyson in a ring and he certainly has the advantage, but I'd whip his A** in business! :naughty:

I could beat Mike in a foot race, or jeopardy.....

Sweet video surprised the male Dovii doesn't eat the female-how did it happen that he paried up with such a small female?

the pair isnt mine, modest man met Mel, the owner of them. then MM took me over to meet him as well and get 15 fry out of the tank. i can tell you that the male is far more aggresive in person than the video shows, to the point that he hits the tank so hard we swore he was going to crack it.

i would guess that having 600g of swimming space and hidng spots helps keep her alive.
