I don't believe that for an instant, and I know I'm not the only one. Saying they're breeding them is one thing, hybridizing is ridiculous and if were even possible I think it would be a disgrace to the species, and last to say they can selective breed to determine stripe patterns is down right stupid. Maybe I can't prove these things to be true but I know you can't either but at least my information won't do any damage. You shouldn't post mis-information on a forum without backing it up as it only leads to problems for less knowledgeable fish keepers in the future.

That's why I asked to see pictures. To make such a claim one has to be able to back it up.I don't even see the point of mixing the two species and I would hope that all efforts are focused on getting some more successful ST spawns.

I made a mistake as I heard about this more then a yr ago, the thai famers were talking about NTT x ST hybrids. This is just what I heard and I have no concrete proof, how much one wants to believe is up to them to decide. The story goes as one of a forummer from another forum went to thailand to search for datnoids, in a couple of farms she found NTT with ST tails and wide bars, 100% stable in the tank, according to a few of the farmers, these were NTT x ST, the main point is the fact they are always stable unlike normal NTTs. When she took them home, these NTT were really stable all the time. These are the pics, all are different NTTs, she brought a total of 10.

I dun own these photos FYI. They are not my fish, neither is this story first hand. Just take it with a pinch of salt. As for 3 bar ITs, you need to see the amount of them pouring into my country when they are in season. They were seen in my local market more then 5 yrs ago but then ST were still around, now that ST are gone, 3 bar IT has become the craz. The way to selective breed is simple, pick out 3 bars only, put into a pond and let them breed. It's not 100% which is why many many odd bars appear, but just like breeding albinos, platinums or short bodies, man has been playing god for quite a long time. The aim as I said is to get 3 bars and odd bars are the failures.

Well the sad truth is at the end of the day even if they do start breeding STs, unless it's by breeding programs to recover the population they'll likely end up just like Asian arowanas and will only be bred in specific numbers to keep prices in the region they're at now. Money>saving the species unfortunately.

Also those are regular NTT, the tails may have slightly larger stripes but it's just a numbers game and eventually you'll see one with larger stripes. Here's an NTT that I lost after my powerheads went out a few months back who has the uncommon tail markings. 279.JPG

I don't think they will breed them with the intention of restocking native waters as that would only endanger the newly introduced broodstock. What would stop locals from overfishing them all over again?...They probably would end up like the aros and be bred for the hobby....and big money.
