ok just starting this for fun so dont flame me if there is already a thread like this. what do you think is the most underrated sa/ca cichlid, tell us why you like it and why you think it doesnt get the credit or popularity it deserves. mine would be salvini- i think it hard to beat a quality one with deep reds and yellows with some blue spangling cool mini guapotes in my opinion. Hard to find quality one in my area tho

i think festivus are very underrated. they're very cool fish, very active, and going after fish atleast 3x their size

Trimacs. It doesn't seem like many people keep them, especially compared to other Amphilophus like RD and Midas. It doesn't help that they're not all that "tankmate-friendly".

Agreed, I love mine.

Convicts, they come in a small package but pack a lot of punch. They can hang out in tanks with the big boys and interact just fine. If they didn't reproduce like rabbits, they might not be as common and get more respect I suppose.

I shouldn't have waited I agree with Balton Cons are def a victum of their own success.
I also agree with CTU2 Trimacs are the red headed step children (no pun intended) of the Amphilophus world.

Amphilophus Zaliosus, it's a really great fish to keep but I think it's not popular because it has no color and is extremely aggressive.

I was going to say Oscar, but I have to agree that convicts are pretty put down in spite of being rather awesome fish. Especially some of the selectively bred strains, and the occasional neon red and blue female.
