most underrated ca/sa cichlid?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Convicts and their cousins Sajica imo are tough as nails and awesome personalities.

I think the Australoheros are not kept by enough people and not as available as they should be.

I am very partial to my A. Oblongum. Very pretty fish, very hardy, Not too agressive, not shy, and a breeding pair can be kept in a 36" tank with other fish. Great pair bond and the male does not beat the snot out of the female.

Im going with the convict too. The have the nice shaped body , great stripes they are cool to be put in almost any tank, they do well with babies and can almost always hold their own. very good looking fish in the lights too. Damn yous a sexy fish" a sexy fish."

yes! Uaru are some of the greatest wet pets Ever - sociable, will eat greens from your hand, cool color changes, etc. A little tougher to keep healthy than some...

For a long time most new world cichlids were dumped on by "serious" hobbyists. I've gotta believe that attaching collection locations resulted in "new" fish for people to want... And shifted some interest from Africans

I agree with japes about keyholes - my first cichlid and one of my all time favorites... Although one that gets overlooked too often

I also agree with CTU2 Trimacs are the red headed step children (no pun intended) of the Amphilophus world.

Haha,..pretty good description when ya think about it,..i think they would
be more popular if they were readily available. I dont know how under rated
they are though,..just harder to come by.

ok just starting this for fun so dont flame me if there is already a thread like this. what do you think is the most underrated sa/ca cichlid, tell us why you like it and why you think it doesnt get the credit or popularity it deserves. mine would be salvini- i think it hard to beat a quality one with deep reds and yellows with some blue spangling cool mini guapotes in my opinion. Hard to find quality one in my area tho

my vote for convicts was for this reason!

For me the least popular (to me) is the Trimac. Sure, people say they are aggressive, but how many people actually own one?

People all over the board here. Got some saying fish in terms of aggression, got others spouting in terms of popularity.
