Most versatile tank size?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think the most versatile tanks are 30 long, 40 breeder, 75 standard, 120 fat boy, 125 standard, 150 and 180. If I were to pick one of the tanks it would be the 40 breeder due to the dimensions.

i would have to put my vote on a 60 gallon. dimensions rock and with a divider u can grow out multiple fish. this last 60 i will never get rid of.

6x2x2 (180) is prettymuch the best common size
agreed. X2

considering what site we are on anything less than than 8x3x2 is redundant.
room for a couple of 2 footers or a few 12inchers.
if you want to only keep fish in the 8in to 12in range 4x2x2up is ok but its not monster keeping is it.
if you are talking aboutstandard community then 50+ is great but thats for another site isnt it?

Seems that foot print plays the biggest role, which is kind of what I was thinking already. Would you guys say bowfronts help any?

i got a 125 gallon and i wish i would have gotten something a lil smaller b/c it's a pain to move

I think bowfronts are the worst.

because of the odd shape, you have a wide middle and skinny ends.

a constant width is much better IMO.

for versatility, its probably tough to beat the standard 120g 4x2x2.

it makes a great reef tank, planted tank, pred. tank etc.

yeah, its not a 180, but not everyone has the room for a 6 foot tank.

a 75g will let you keep the vast majority of commonly available fish, if you're in a dorm room and want something exotic there's no real need to go over 20G IMO.. there are plenty of small fish, or relatively inactive fish that are every bit as interesting as the monsters most of the people here are into.
