Motivation

Take home rescue fish from CL. When people sell an adult arowana or pacu living in a smaller tank, pick it up, tend it back to full health then pass it on to another more capable owner. This you can do over and over to give yourself a purpose and also help fish in need.

I use repairing a tank or setting up a new system to motive me...not working out for me currently. I'm about to dive into a repair, to get me going.

I find myself new goals and give myself a purpose. When I first started a little over a year ago i bought some tiger barbs and a pearl gourami. Then I joined mfk. I quickly fell in love with Datnoids and certain species of catfish. I went and bought every Datnoid I came across in my travels. I quickly came to realize that they weren't all stable, all the time and that there were different species. I ordered an ntt. My goal now is to weed out, so to speak, the non stable ones, or replace them with a different species. I recently picked up a silver dat, and an ngt is in the works. I could keep talking, but you get my point.

Been in the hobby for many years my secret and I have kept just about everything, is to keep only one tank going. Therefore no burnout for me. A tank is part of room decor for me.Right now I have a 50 breeder with all kinds of swordtails and mollys. Full of color and I can go planted or not. Ihave always had some type of setup except when I was in the coast guard but then actually had a large tank at one of the bases LOL

I realize this thread is over a year old, but here are my two cents: when I'm feeling burnt out or bored with my current setups, I like to research any and all things fish. Learning about something I didn't know before helps spark my interest back up.

The best motivation for keeping focused in this hobby is the fish themselves. You can't for one minute let your standards slip or get lazy because quite simply your fish will die. Their very lives rely on everyone of us being on the top of our game, always. But yeah it does happen. You've had a crap day at work, you come home, oh know it's water change night and you just can't be arsed with it. Then i think how gutted i'd be if my fish suffered or died because of my neglect. That's motivation enough for me, always.

What motivates me...at the thought of raising the crew since they were babies and seeing how big they will get as adults. But I do have some lows; as much as like new fishes, I don't see myself adding anytime soon unless some don't make it. I have basic black river rock and driftwood, and prefer the basic look for ease of maintenance and for the "big guy" to swim. So, décor changes isn't something I continually want to do...

...I then turn my attention to below the tank. Little tweaks here and there to the sump and equipment. Seeing how I can better organize. Just today, I was thinking of how I could make a little stnand/holder with PVC and connectors to keep my titanium heaters off the acrylic sump bottom. I don't like attaching them with suction so close to acrylic so have a stand to put them on...LOL...sometimes it's the smallest things.
