asked my girlfriend to clean it for me.. jumped in the shower, came back and it wasn't working. I really don't know what she could have done. It was put together perfectly, she even said that she even filled it up with water before she plugged it in.

The filters only about 2 years old, I never would have thought that the motor would have burned out this fast.. Its not doing anything, not even noise.. Am I screwed or what? I'm thinking about calling tetratec and yelling at them about this.. I really don't feel like having to buy a $20 motor and pay for shipping when I can buy a much better filter for $40.

Personally I'd check the impeller housing. tHERES REALLY NOT MUCH THAT CAN GO WRONG WITH A MAG DRIVE MOTOR

oops I hit the caps key.....

After you pull the impeller housing out (end of the intske tube) make sure theres nothing in there and then pull the impeller free. occasionally stuff will fall in the motor housing and get the impeller magnet stuck. (do this with the filter unpluged)
then reinstall the impeller and make sure it moves freely. put the tube back on fill it with water and plug it in

we unplug the impeller (fan looking part) every time we clean it anyways so I think the motor has to be bad. At first I just thought she overheated it so I unplugged it for like 4hours and came back and plugged it back in but its still not working.

you cant feel anything in the impeller?
with the power on?

nothing.. like I said, not even a noise.

Sounds like a dead motor although thats really rare
What model is this?

woooooooooo! I just took the motor off and cleaned the whole thing out (another time) for a last attempt to salvage it and it started working.. I have no idea what the problem could have been but I crammed my fish tank toothbrush down in the motor and scrubbed it a couple of times running water in and out of it to see if there was a chunk of something stuck in it but there was nothing. I don't know why its working now but at least I don't have to replace it. mystery.........

its a tetratec whisper 30 I think.. I am almost positive it was dead or shorted out or something but I re-vived it with my toothbrush scrubbing skills.
