ha ha ha Zoodiver, seems as you beat me to the punch by about 10 seconds.

Great minds think alike. ;)

Hey mate,

you sound really eager and thats grate. But when a ray hits maturuity from my understanding can not be set at an age or size. There is hormones ate play here.

I was reading where a breeder would place his young males with older female rays, and that they would reach maturuity at a faster rate than the ones taht didnt. (as in claspers would drop quicker)
So maybe thats something to think about too? if your doing it all in the name of science.

30% daily.... whatever floats your boat. I guess if it keeps you fit!

What filteration are you running on the system? Or plan to.

trust me you'll seriously regret you got 6 rays for the tank instead of the pond. They eat and crap like mad, especially since your temp is that high. Like zoodiver said, it'll lead to health problems eventually. Almost forgot, if you're planning to add 6, 5" rays to your 180 with all those other fish in your signature, its gunna be overcrowded, and your rays might get eaten or ripped apart.

Reason why I do 25%-30% WC a day is because I don't have that great of a filtration system. I turn my 180 Gallon, maybe 4 times at the least and 5 at the most. That is why I do daily WC to keep the water clear and the poop out.
FILTERATON:
3 HOB: 2 Rated at 400 GPH and one 330 GPH. Total around 1130 GPH but we all know HOB doesn't usually get the GPH they claim too so around 800 GPH.
I also run 3 Powerhead, total GPH circulation is around 600 GPH.

I was thinking that 6 is a over kill. :)
Maybe I'll stick to 3 or 4 but trust me guys I will upgrade to the pond and once I do all are welcome to make a road trip and see the setup. Temp for the 180 is currently 84. And I'll keep it that way too but I'm not trying to "power feed" my fish at all....I feed them in the morning and at night like most hobbyist do.....but once in a while in the afternoon as well....

Other than that, thanks for all the input guys.

Dont forget about the getting eaten by aros part, i wasnt kidding.

Not to be rude or anything but sorry sodenoshirayuki...please read the thread fully....I stated that they will be the "ONLY" fish in the 180 gallon. I already got the Arowanas on hold for a buddy and they will be out of the 180 gallon.....

Just making things clear.

well i have friends that run 1200GPH on ray ponds with no problem... but it seems your going to shock your system adding that many rays... maybe save the money for a upgrade in filtration....

Here are the questions....How fast do they grow...I hear they do only around 2-3 inches a year and was wondering how fast do they normally grow, and how long (age) will they sexually mature at?

they grow when pups 1" per month if fed well and clean water. They can double, if not more than double in the first 2 years... Double in length and disc diameter.

:thumbsup::iagree:

Along the same line:
Purchase (4) rays, (2) male - (2) female
spend the rest of your money on stupendous filtration! I believe this will be the better choice for you and your interests in the long run.

FireMedic.

You might also want to get your rays from different places so you don't get brother and sister rays. Just take it slow.......... you never know when nice marble motoro ends up for sale. Right now I have eight rays and the do create alot of waste and eat alot. It take alot of dedication. Right now my girlfriend is cussing me out cause I can't go to Vegas for a week for valentines day because I can't leave my rays!!!!!!!!!!!

Remember to do a OVERKILL on filtration and a drip system will make your life alot easier!!!!!
