Motoro Growth Rates.... *NEW PROJECT IN MIND*

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That tank is way too small for six motoros. It is common for them to reach 10" to 13" by the time they are a year old.

Don't waste your time with the 180. Buy a plastic/fiberglass pond.

Colin

since you got the money now buy everything for the filtration for that pond and get it for them...

Okay....this is my plan now.....please don't make me feel any badder.... :(

I'll be getting 3 rays...two females and 1 male....
As for the other ray money I'll get a FX5 or some type of canister.....

Not to be rude or anything but sorry sodenoshirayuki...please read the thread fully....I stated that they will be the "ONLY" fish in the 180 gallon. I already got the Arowanas on hold for a buddy and they will be out of the 180 gallon.....

Just making things clear.
Whoops, my bad, didnt read thoroughly. And an fx5 MIGHT not be enough filtration. Never tried it but currently using 3 eheim 2217s on a 180 and i still feel its underfiltered.

out of the entire mfk, your the only person who doesnt seam to think much of filteration.

Im not agisnt the idea or anything, but think of it this way.

If you only want the best for your rays.... you want a dam good filter at least

set up a sump. Its not that hard. Its cheaper than an fx5, and you can customize it for your needs (ie lots of zeolite to break down the extra ammonia youll have). But the ideal would be a sump + fx5.

temp - do what you want with that. (its your money on the bills so its compeltely up to you)

Size of the tank: if you know you may have to upgrade in the near future its totally cool to grow them out in this. Providing there is enough filtration.
Just know it may be in the near future...

Looking at your sig, you clearly have some experience with keeping mosnter fish. And know the importance of filteration, i just fail to see logic on the filteration part of your project.

what filterration have you got set up on your other tanks?

At least weve pushed you to lean to go to a fx5. LOL so were going to keep pushing :P until you overfilter.. :P

No disrespect but I do think of filtration.....that is the reason why I am doing the daily WC.....and my tank never has any problem with spikes or high nitrate and all those good stuff.....

If my water is a constant...20PPM nitrate and ammonia and nitrite being at 0, I think I'm doing quite good.

I have been thinking about a sump and I might be picking one up at Milwaukee too...

nice...I have 20 ppm nitrates in my tank all the time...even if I do a 70% water change...(I don't gravel vac..:)) Haven't had any problems with my ray...

I know I don't have the best filtration but I'm not usually the guy who over filters their tanks but still has problem with his water.....

All my tanks are filtered by my 300+ GPH HOB filters.....

The point we're trying to make is, even if you do 30% w/c a day, it might not be enough. If you've never kept a ray before, you won't know how much they eat and how much they crap. Its actually pretty surprising at first.

I have kept rays before and do realize how much dedication it takes to care for them. I personally think my WC schedule is more than enough to keep them happy and myself happy.
But thanks for everyone's advices and I am very excited to start this project.
