mmmm so who decided on the glossy names ?

why not

spotty motoro
more spotty motoro
really spotty motoro

at a small size its near imposable to tell how a ray will turn out

lets face it part of the fun in ray keeping is watching ray turn real nice as they get big

who gives anyone the right to decide if one ray is nicer than another

different people like different things

i for one wouldn't care if a leo or p14 didn't have many spots as long as it was healthy

would it stop you buying a motoro just because it wasnt labeled as king royal motoro or it had 99 spots instead of 100

:iagree:

A motoro is a motoro but if you are ordering a ray and don't have a pic of it then the names do help. If you buy a plain motoro from a place that says they have 20 in stock then who knows what it will like. Atleast if it is labelled a superspot then you know they have more spots. I do not agree that they use the names to jack the price up though.

I would like to know what I am buying. So if these names will help with that why not.
If someone was selling a pain motoro with very few spots & a triple spot for more money I would not have a problem paying more $$ for a better quality fish.
That’s how it works with everything you buy the better quality it is the more you pay.

OK so they have 2 motoro side buy side both fished from the same location 1 has a few more spots than the other are they both royal motoro or is the other king royal

would the exporter call them both king royal to max profits or label them what the system says

or would the person who buys them know if it was this or that type

i know 100% if someone had a p14 for sale if it had less spots and wouldn't meet to some people standards of so called galaxy p14 i would still buy it

all types of rays shouldn't be labeled it then makes people think nice NORMAL motoro all rays are nice in the own right with different spots that what makes them unique and diffrent from many other types of fish

If I am buying a leo or a p14, I wouldn't care what they looked like. I was talking about mainly motoros because they are so diverse. Compairing a motoro to a p14 is like compairing a dodge viper to a chevy lumina. I would take the viper in any color LOL!

I dont really see a problem with the grading system to differentiate quality in variants.. however, plastering a fancy name on a fairly common ray (see TFDfish) in order to inflate the price is pretty lame.

If we didn't differentiate variants in dogs, it might be the same issue..
"I have a brindle dane"..
"No, you just have a great dane, they all the same"..
"well no mine is a brindle its a bit different, and my friend has a reverse brindle!"..
"Nope, nope.. all great danes are just great danes no difference in quality, some just might have different colors"..

It really is just up to the buyer if they want to pay more or not.. just as long as it's not used as a deception tactic

I go by species and animal health. 2 most important things to me when getting animals.

If I was to get at animal without seeing it in person, I'd want a pic to know what it looks like. I will pay for a species not a made up name.

Pictures of the parents are one of the biggest factors in getting a ray for me. In the end I think it comes down to trusting the seller....
