Motoro strikes again

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks everyone. I am not totally blaming the ray because the loachs "could" have done it to themselves because my 30gallon is redicuals and stocked very heavy. I added 3 more that same day, maybe they had to much fun cruising around. The first loachs the ray was sucking on and was already dead, so i dont know if he killed him for food. The second one i seen freaking out and moving his gills alot. Looked painful but nothing i could do.

How often do motoros lose their stingers? Any way to clip a stinger off without killing the ray?

well.... stingrays dont sting for food... they just use it for defense.... so i doubt that it stung it on purpose if it did sting it.... also.... you have a motoro... in a 30 gallon with other fish.... YOU NEED A BIGGER TANK! no less then a 300 for a ray

i have a 210. 6.5'X2X2, he will go in there shortly when i feel the time is right. In a couple days the stock in the 30 will be half of what it is now, time to move some fish to the big tank. The 30 is just a grow out tank.

This is the problem that you're going to run into with a crowded 30g growout tank. As fish grow, they release hormones into the water. Unless you're changing 50-75% of the water in that tank every day, the hormones are building up. Those hormones will stunt the growth of your fish and shorten their life expectancy. In essence, you've got an anti-growth tank as it stands. It's quite the counter-productive scenario for you at this point. The best way to get your fish to grow faster is giving them as much room and clean water as possible. Quite honestly, I don't think that any experienced ray keeper would recommend anything less than 75g for even the smallest ray pup.

While thats all great and peachy... heres the problem i have... The fish in the growout are growing fast, and look very heathy as they all are fed ALOT. I do 50% a week on the water change maybe a bit more. the 30 is fine for my ray, it doesnt seem small but i do have alot of fish in there that are pigs! I did have those loachs get big and fat in no time so its not an anti-growth tank. Thanks for the concern though.
