I think that may have been a reason to go with Tom since there isn't really anybody on the scene right now that does fit the role. So if there isn't go for the most famous actor around and help draw in a new crowd. Matt Wahlberg would have been good for the role though come to think of it.

Thomas Jane comes to mind.I think he could have pulled this off better than he did with the Punisher.
I imagine someone more gruff or burly than Cruise...This already reminds me of what they did to the Earl Swagger character in the movie Shooter which was adapted from Stephen Hunter's Point of Impact..totally changed the character.
I agree. Wahlberg would be more suited for jack reacher than for shooter. As a side note, which writer do you prefer, Stephen Hunter or Lee Child. Child keeps a faster pace which I enjoy a lot more. Don't get me wrong all the SH books I read were great, just not as fast paced and exciting which is more my style.

yeah earl swagger was Clint..not marky mark by the way krich ...check out the book creole belle by james lee burke .a modern classic ,just out recently
LOL,good movie but was nothing compared to the book..I remember when I'd learned that the book was to be brought to the big scr and how eager I was to see it but a little let down afterward....I will look into Creole Belle.
