I know...I set up a 29 as a grow out tank for my wifes GT's (first grow out tank) it looks so small next to the big guys...but they do make great hospital/utility tanks. Thats what We have planned for this one once the GT's move on to the next level...

gonna movee to my grammas and can only have a 29 ( buyin a 29 after we move )and im keepin 1 O ( awsome he will ri pellets out of my hands SAWEET ) 3 firmouths 1 or 2 JDs but gonna find a house in my grammas town so i can have more.. teh O is 2 inches and is teh biggeest fish
so your going to put 3 firemouths and a jackdempsy in a 29? you know a jack dempsy will out gorw that tank right males can get just almost as big as oscars and probably will not like the firemouth in that size tank

:WHOA: I want to see how this plays out.

You could, realistically, only have a pair of Firemouths in a 29g. An Oscar, 3 FMs, and a JD in a 29 is like a Pima in a 55g.

Here's just a little tip, you may find it to be true, or you may not. But here goes... I can say with confidence that you will enjoy a single pair or even a single fish, that is very well cared for, in a tank that is too large for it than you will enjoy a bunch of fish in a tank that is too small, that will be the source of much stress and hassle on your part, and an unhealthy (regardless of how nice the water is), stressful, and probably sickness-ridden life for the fish. I would highly highly suggest either:
1) Getting a much bigger tank.
2) Get rid of everything except 2 FMs (a confirmed M/F Pair)
3) Get rid of everything, and get a nice group of small fish, and start a beautiful planted tank.

I think these would be the best options for you, and especially for the fish. I think most people enjoy a couple well kept for fish than many fish that aren't well housed.

You know there are a lot of awesome cichlids you could actually realistically keep a good sized group of in a 29. Ever considered Rams, Apistos, or Keyhole Cichlids? They are all beautiful (well the keyholes are a touch drab), and have all the personality and endearing traits of the big guys...but don't get the size of the tank you want to put them in :)

the oscar is the one that everybody is concerned about eventually your o will need a 75 gallon

so unless you are gonna get a 75 in the next year or so, i would not keep the oscar

Ditch the Oscar, and the JD. Both get too large. However a planted tank, or a pair of FM's, rams, kribs, apistos, african shelldwellers.

the oscars gonna outgrow the tank, so get rid of him before he grows much larger, as when they get larger, no one buys them, so u just see them in the pet stores as trade ins and its quite sad. a two inch oscar will sell much better then a six.
also the one inch per gallon isnt always true, so you should get rid of him asap as i grew mine from 2.5 to nine in 3 and a half months, but i kept him well feed.
