moving 500 gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
he didnt. I believe he's putting it in the basement.

Will it fit down the stairs? Do you have clearance?

dam, my 570 weighed in at 850 pounds. I did it with suction cups and 4 to 5 guys but it was straight forward out and into the house. We only lifted the total weight for very short periods of time. I also took car towing straps and them looped around peoples shoulders on all four corners. A extra protection if the suction cup failed and it helped in lifting. I also slid the tank over a Mattress, through my window and on top of my stand.

Going down stairs, you will need allot of guys with suction cups and straps. You have to decide whats the best plan. Lift and carry down stairs, or you can place it on a mattress or something and slide down stairs. Im not going into great detail, you get the idea.

Also, don't count your self in moving it. Get enough man power with out your self lifting. Someone needs to be in charge and be looking at the overall situation. You should help but, be in charge and be ready to tell people what to do and where to move when needed. Its going to be crazy I can tell you that much.

dose it go straight into the door and down the steps??
if so MAYBE you can strap it too somthing and let it slide down maybe using your jeep ???? i dunno good luck tho

yea its going in the basement, there is room to clear it. i think the suction cups are a good idea, i dont know if they will hold up because its a custom built tank and they used 2 x 3/4 inch slabs of glass for each side of the tank. i would guess it around 1500 lbs. i appreciate all the posts thanks, its gonna be fun

Go to a Glass shops and ask to borrow the suction cups there, They are the professional grade you have to pump them up and they stick to the glass like Glue. Trust me they can lift the tank, but I used the straps just in case as a back up but proved to be very helpful.

Also if at any point you feel that this is just to crazy and you might break it or kill someone. Just pay some movers to do it, But get everything in writing and they should have insurance if the movers break it they buy it. It will cost some money but if it was me that would also be a option.

my advice before you try moving the tank in, cut a piece of plywood the base dimensions of the tank and carry it along the route of the move to see any problems in negotiating turns. that a big tank what are the dimensions and what does it look like?
