I just came up with the easiest way of all!!!!!!

Are there any custom tank builders in your vicinity?

If so why not ask them if they can dissasemble the tank and then remake it in your basement? issue solved and you have a fresh and solid seal on the tank. bit more hassle but sure deal.

Beat me to it, like he said. Sounds better than risking manslaughter.

Go to a Glass shops and ask to borrow the suction cups there, They are the professional grade you have to pump them up and they stick to the glass like Glue. Trust me they can lift the tank, but I used the straps just in case as a back up but proved to be very helpful.

Also if at any point you feel that this is just to crazy and you might break it or kill someone. Just pay some movers to do it, But get everything in writing and they should have insurance if the movers break it they buy it. It will cost some money but if it was me that would also be a option.

Superdave's spot on with his advice, I hired a specialist who is insured.
He is an aquarium builder who also moves tanks.
I provided the man power, he provided the truck, suction cups, wood for sliding the tank and a custom built trolley.
He also instructed my mates on what to do and when to do it which was great as you really need someone to take charge.
One mistake and people are going to get hurt really badly.
It cost me $300 and he even came back to help me level the tank and is now a great friend.

Check out the tank and move.

Ahh, I think he said "his" tank is going in the basement.
"My" 500g tank was moved earlier this year and I posted pics to show him how it can be done.
I still want to see pics or video of the 500g basement move and tank though.

AHHHH SO THIS IS WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO HAVE YOUR FOOT IN YOUR MOUTH :ROFL::ROFL:

seriously I thought that was the op showing the move

sweeet still get to see this monster moved down some steps then

refrigeratior dolly with 3 rotating wheels per side. dunno about the op's location didn't check but you can rent them from uhaul, penske, enterprize etc.

then 3-5guys could move it down stairs 2 below one above. or 2 above and 3 below. the amount of guys will of course depend on the size of the guys.

3 large samoans would do it. pity you can't find them on every corner like a certain other nationality in the southwest.

Wow, very nice tank. Thanks for posting. What did you end up putting in it?

And I look forward to seeing the tank move downstairs. That one should be a lot of fun.
