Hello, I will be moving in a month. I have a new tank set up waiting for my fish. What is the best way to move a 22" silver arowana? I only will be moving him about 5 miles to the other side of town. Would you reccomend a storage tote, cooler, or ?..
As of now i plan on using a net and my hand to get him out (he isnt afraid to be touched) then stick him in about a 30gal storage tote.
Thanks in advance

Get a decent sized box - i use poly boxes but a Rubbermaid would be fine - get one as big as you possibly can - starve the fish for a few days before the move.

Net him up, box him up, cellotape the lid down so he can't jump out and move him - remember to acclimatise him at his new home.

Even if he is used to your hand just remember one jump from an arowana could see him breaking his spine and dying instantly - be careful and use a proper sized net!!

Good luck

when I moved my old aro I used a large shipping bag from the LFS and persuaded it into the bag to minimize damage and stress. From there I lifted it out into a cooler.

You might be underestimating the reaction your arowana is going to have to being forced out of its comfort zone. Getting the fish out of the tank will be the most difficult part of your move. I suggest a large piece of mesh that you can use to basically roll him up in. Hope everything works out!

make sure to drain the tank about 2/3 so its easier to net him out.
But a big tote like you have should work great.
Like others said...a huge net.
Or a large bag or pillow case.
Just let him swim on in. Much easier when the tank is almost empty.
