He is doing great so far. I keep my tanks all at the same temp and parameters. I did a huge water change on my grow out tank the day before the move and a huge water change on my 220 right before moving him. He has done great so far. He swims around like nothing happened. My fire eels are all very curious and come to check him out all the time. He just swims along like they’re not even there. Tonight was the first feeding and he ate very well. It worked out like I had hoped. I fed the eels their frozen food and then dropped in the Massivore pellets while the lights were still on. As soon as the pellets hit the sand, he came out from behind the plants and started searching around for the pellets. He ate at least four pellets and two frozen krill while I was watching him. Here are some pictures:
There is some damage to his anal fin. H it didn’t seem to mind it at all, but I will have to keep an eye on it.
I’m not sure what could have happened. He came from a bare bottom tank, so part of me thinks it might just be getting used to the sand. However, there was a decent tear around the base of the fin, so it might have been inflicted by a tankmate. Other than that, he already swims around like he owns the tank. Lol
Well, some not so good news today. The anal fin is completely gone. Not sure if the fire eels or the vulture cats could be the problem. He still seems to be just fine. I don’t want to remove him yet, but I will keep an eye on the situation. Here are some pictures of the damage. I think it might be permanent, but we’ll see.
Aw, that sucks. Hopefully it was a fluke and just came off the rest of the way, maybe helped by a tank mate? It looked pretty darn ripped in the earlier pics.
Crossing fingers for an isolated incident. Happy he's eating well!
