I may be moving soon and want to take a lot of my fish. I'm thinking the best way to do it is in a Rubbermaid tub but I can't figure out a good way to keep water from sloshing out. Do any of you have a solution? I also thought about bagging individually and just put all the bags in but I don't like that as much as they are mostly spiney fish.
Thanks

A few years ago I moved from the Eastern coast of NC to Indianapolis, IN. I had large oscars and a few large plecos. I got the biggest bags and foam shipping boxes I could from my LFS. I bagged each fish individually with as much water to air as I could and then put them in the foam shipping boxes. Trip took almost two days and all the fish made it. The only thing you must do is drip acclimate them to their new tanks because the bags will be gross!

Oh! I forgot. I saved as much water as I could in 5 gallon Lowes buckets to seed the new tanks and I kept all my filter media soaked in tank water. Tanks went up like all I did was a massive water change.

I've found that coolers work best. They keep the temp stable and you can drill a small hole for the battery powered air pump. Tape around the lid to keep the water in.
....
Rubbermaid, locking lid, battery powered air pump.
Great ideas and I would let all of the fish fast for a few days before the move and resume feeding them after they have settled in in their new digs.

I use this technique for almost everything. Whether I'm buying, selling, or transporting fish. I've yet to have a single issue.

Agree with this option as well, I just would rather ruin a Rubbermaid container than a cooler hahaha.

Locking lid for a stock tank? I couldn't them in a google search.

The extra thick styrofoam coolers used for meat are the best...they are the best insulation. I will use egg crate(light diffuser grid) and create baffles...this keeps the water from sloshing to much...and an air pump, plugged into an inverter. ..I prefer it to the battery ones for long trips....I have even used internal filters this way....both at times. The pumps (doth air and water) use very little power and a small inverter is very adequate and not expensive.
