Ok so as it sets I'll be picking up a 12"+ indo early next week. but I need to know what's the best way to get it home?

cooler with air pump?

Styro box and bags with air pump?

some way I have yet to think of?

the drive from there to my place won't be far maybe an hour but I want it to be safe as possible.

also on a side note How hard is it to break these guys of feeders?

ive transported a slightly bigger dat a while back. just put him in a big styro box or cooler with an airpump and you should be ok. i didnt use bags but make sure the box is solid.

As long as it's a sturdy container and definitely use an air pump

Cool sounds like the cooler is the way to go. I have transported plenty of large fish in the past but mostly aros and big cats so I just needed to knwo if there was anything to watch out for with dats.

I'll be doing the cooler with air pump. I'll let you guys know how it works out I'll have a pic thread on him when I bring him home. but that won't be till monday I think.

The only bad thing about dats is their dorsal fins..they're razor sharp and I have had a few that puncture the styro foam box.

If I were you, I'd bring a rubbermaid container. They're food grade and only less than $ 5 from walmart/home depot.

I've got a few of these laying around too. I know about there dorsal Or at least know what I've heard. lol My next thing is how to get him into the tank. Is netting these big guys a no no b/c the dorsal? or should i towel him into the tank? or just grab him? I don't feel like getting cut up. I've been stabbed by a few catfish and that's never fun. I'm looking for the best way to get him out of the shipping container and into the tank without hurting him or me.

My 15" indo I grabbed few weeks back, here's what I did. After acclimating in the cooler, I carefully held it and placed it in the tank water slowly. Just make sure you avoid the dorsal fins and carely place the dat in the tank after it's done acclimating.
