Hmm, don't they make heater protectors so that fish don't get burned, maybe I could implement one of those onto the casing of the heater or make something myself out of some plastic.

You can make one out of PVC/drill if your lfs doesn't stock any.

half of 30g isn't alot of water and I don't know if your fish will fight in that time/little bit of water. That's why I said maybe easier to bag each one seperately, get a couple fish shipping boxes/heat packs and box them up like you were shipping them. All just ideas though. :)

Hmm, the bag idea just seems more stressful to me. I am with you though on half of a 30 gallon is only 15 gallons and that is not a lot of water especially for a semi-territorial jag. Him and the Sev are the only two that bump heads as they are the biggest in the tank it never ends badly though only flaring but they have 90g's to seperate themselves though. Maybe I should look into a bigger rubbermaid, you know the cost on them?

every time I transport fish, I use disposable styrofoam coolers. i brought some piranha from tennessee to florida in december, got a flat, sat on the side of the interstate for six hours, got a hotel room, continued my trip the next day. didn't lose a single fish, and it was well over a 24 hour ordeal. that is what I would recommend.

as far a tanks, I transport them upright, and put lighter, softer items such as clothes (in boxes) inside. I wrap those boxes in blankets to make them fit snug inside the tank. wrap the outside of the aquarium with a comforter. this conserves space for the move, and (hopefully) helps support the glass from damage in case of an accident (God forbid).

Wow, that is crazy no aeration or heat packs anything? I still like the rubbermaid idea with pvc to protect heater and a small air stone. I think I saw a member on here had made a crate so to speak to cradle the rubbermaid he was using to transport his p-bass to his pond. I'm going to go similar but use the ratcheting tie downs I use for my motorcycle to keep its form and hold the lid closed. As far as the tank I think I will use the ratchet straps also and put eggcrate for a mattress around and underneath it so if it slides and hits my inner fenders in the bed it will be padded.

I kept it next to the heater at the hotel. I opened it once at the hotel, they were fine. after that, didn't open it again until I got here to florida. I was sure they'd be dead, but I knew opening it would just let cold in. as far as aeration, I guess just the surface continually being disturbed from bumps, turns and lane changes was sufficient. most fish are much more resiliant than we give them credit for; until one day, when all peramiters are fine, they die for no apparent reason.

Isn't that the truth...:nilly: This move has me :D:headbang2 because I can't wait to see everyone from HS I haven't seen in years:) but at the same time I'm running around :nilly::irked::chillpill: and its got me going crazy thinking about all this. Can anyone say overwhelmed, I've also got to move into a new house, get an appoint. w/ the realtor, get a student loan, register, enroll for classes, devise this fishbox to transport my guys, and move this tank and break all the other one's down!:nilly:

I see Ft. Knox. Getting out of the Army? I went through the same thing 10 years ago. I got rid of my 75, and all my fish when I got out. as far as the pirhana story, well I was kinda smuggling some for my bro.

nice. KY is nice, I was stationed at Ft. Campbell, right on KY and TN border, between Nashville and Paducah.

Wish you the best of luck, and replace those aquariums you had to get rid of with bigger ones as soon as possible!
