Good idea. But I think I’ll need to use 2 totes to keep the plecos from going nuts with each other. I may have a couple filters that hang over the edge of tank in storage. Not sure what shape they’re in though.I would set up a temporary holding container (tote, esky, rubbish bin etc) to house your fish for a few days so you can move and re-set up the tank without stress or time pressure. You can keep the holding container at old place or new place depending on your circumstances. No need to feed the fish if it's only a week.
Yes. Thanks. I once travelled from New Mexico to Wisconsin by car. Took us 4 days , traveled through Sioux Falls during a snow storm. Had 2 shubunkins and a fan tail gold fish. They were in large bags with enough water to cover them comfortably (about 1/3 water) then pure oxygen. Thought I lost the fantail because she was floating on top with that dead fish posture. Couldn’t dispose of her right away cause she was in with another fish. When I set the tank up and added fish, she came alive just fine. I’d never seen a fish go dormant before! LOLDon't fill the bag with water you need air in it if you close the bag thats if you didn't know that already.
Regarding using filters, it just occurred to me that aeration is the most important thing (duh). With the gravel in the tote, they’d still have enough bio matter to keep them from getting shocky, and I can just use the air hoses instead of Having to mess with old pumps and pre-seeding the filters. Does this sound feasible since they’d only be in the totes for 24-48 hours max?Good idea. But I think I’ll need to use 2 totes to keep the plecos from going nuts with each other. If you place the bio media in a bag with a little aquarium water the bacteria will survive. I personally would toss the bio media in with the fish. The fish will still excrete urine so the bacteria will have ammonia to feed on. I've personally had a power outage longer than 24 hrs but tossed my bio media in the aquarium with the fish until power came back on.
Thanks. I’ll put the used filters, driftwood, ornaments etc. in the totes with the fish until tank is comfortably set up. I’m so grateful for this site. You guys are a wealth of information. Wish I’d have known about it before the last move! Keeping fish is a lifelong learning process.
